first trial....

This week I implemented my WebQuest. Because of the lack of computer access that we have at my school. I chose use my WQ with my fifth grade GATE students. IT WAS AMAZING. We had recently watched the movie Tron so they were amazed to see that their assignment was based around it, this was also the reason that I wanted to make a WQ based on the movie. As soon as they heard the music, they were hooked!! I can't wait to try it with other students!!

so excited...

I've been working on adding the last finishing touches on my WQ. I think in doing an evaluation on a WQ really helped to give me tips on the things that I want to make sure are going to work or not work for my students. One thing that I have been making sure of is that all of my links are working. I cant wait to see what my students think about the WQ. It will definitely be exciting and different for them and me!

argh!

I feel super overwhelmed with all that I have done this week and what I have yet to do!! I am super happy with a lesson I did with my 4th and 5th grade students. I created an interactive game show that focused on 4th grade science standards.... the teachers were super amped to see all the different components and the fact that we were also able to integrate technology.

This week has been super crammed with other work, I haven't had much time to work on my WQ :-/

BUT I am definitely taking advantage of this weekend and the fact that I have spring break from work :)

must take it one day at a time, one assignment at a time....

work in progress

I think this WebQuest assignment is intense! It has been fun to look up websites that I think can help in my WQ. I think that doing the WebQuest evaluation was also very helpful in the process of making my own WQ. The one that I chose was not the best example, I think that it was lacking in some aspects... But I think that it was helpful in showing me what works and what does not work. I liked that the concept was catchy, but the "hook" I think was lacking. I want to be able to have a catchy hook to get my students interested in continuing with my WQ. I think Dr. Donovan was correct in telling us about that this introduction will be very important.

I feel like I still have a lot of work to do!! I'm trying to finish my lay out for my WQ, and finalizing what sites I want to incorporate. I keep leaving my hook till the end, I think that once I have all the pieces then I will be able to make something really fun!

But... ITS A WORK IN PROGRESS :)

Learning more about WebQuests...

The WebQuest assignments seems to have various components to it. I think that in reading the articles it became easier to see the components of what makes up a WebQuest.I learned so much with just these three articles that were provided by Dr. Donovan. WebQuest consist of six important parts: introduction, task, process, resources, evaluation, and conclusion. In reading the articles I found that it is very important to be clear in every step, especially because the work that is done on WebQuest is done as groups on the computer. My target population for this project will be my fourth grade classes. From working with them I know that they are really good at working in groups and helping each other out with group tasks. I think that this WebQuest will challenge them because most of my students don’t have the opportunity to use the computers during school. In reading these articles I also found that it is important to find a topic that is open ended. My original topic I was thinking about was circuits. I’m not sure if this will work or not, but I would like to still try to keep on this topic and create an open ended question about circuits.

Instructional Project?

Gotta say, this project seems like its going to be hard!! BUT on the flip side, I'm also excited to get started on it because I know that it is going to be great to learn how to make a WebQuest, but not only that to be able to use what I have created with some of my students. I know that I want to create a science WebQuest. And since the fifth graders are going to be tested maybe I will focus on a fifth grade standard... But maybe I will choose a fourth grade standard because I know that they also are tested on those standards as well. And being that I teach science for ALL of NEW Academy, I can use the WebQuest for the fourth grade classes as well!!!

I have a feeling this assignment is going to be a challenge, but in the long run I think I'm going to love it.

Web-page

I just posted my web-page. I must say this was a crazy assignment to work on. It seemed very confussing to me at first, I couldn't figure out how to move things around!! But I must admit that Google has made things so easy to understand (once you sit and really look at the site).

This assignment was very frustrating at first but after sitting and giving it some time, I found that it was actually fun to be able to create a place for my students.

here is the link to what I made :)
